Whitewater Rafting Fun Fact #3
The White Salmon River has a twin river flowing through the city of Hood River, Oregon apply called the “Hood River”. Flowing North from Mt. Hood and flowing South from Mt. Adams are the Hood River and the White Salmon Rivers. Both enter the Columbia River in the center of the Columbia River Gorge almost exactly opposite of each other. To paint a picture in your mind, there are two enormous mountains (Mt Hood in Oregon and Mt Adams in Washington) about 60 miles apart with one huge valley connecting the two. The valley has two whitewater rafting rivers flowing towards each other and are separated only by the second largest river in the U.S. (the Columbia River) flowing through a sea level passage through the Cascade Mountains. Sound like a place you would like to visit? National Geographic named it the sixth most beautiful place to visit, but I think its #1.
